For thousands of families across Southeastern Virginia, having enough food on the table is not always guaranteed. In fact, one in eight people in the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia’s service area experiences food insecurity.
The Foodbank works to address that need by collecting, storing and distributing nutritious food throughout the communities it serves. Last year alone, it distributed more than 24 million pounds of food to people facing hunger. Through a network of food pantries, community kitchens, emergency shelters and other local organizations, food reaches families throughout the region.
Its work also extends beyond traditional food distribution. The Foodbank operates programs that provide direct access to groceries, nutrition resources and assistance with programs such as SNAP. Its Community Food Hubs connect neighbors with food while also addressing challenges that can contribute to food insecurity, including access to employment, housing, healthcare, education and financial resources.
Our agency has chosen to support the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia as our current Community Cause. By highlighting its work, we hope to bring greater attention to the resources available to our neighbors and the ongoing need for reliable access to nutritious food.
For more than four decades, the Foodbank has worked throughout the region with one clear mission: leading the effort to eliminate hunger in our community.
